Dr. Nix treats children as young as two or three, and commonly consults with parents who are dealing with the challenges of managing life with a new baby or toddler, as well as working with parents of older children and teens. Parents seeking treatment for their child or teen are generally asked to come in for an initial appointment to provide history, and assist in the process of developing an appropriate course of treatment. Collaboration with parents is an important component of successful treatment for most childhood issues, and often is essential when addressing adolescent problems, as well. While Dr. Nix does not do formal evaluations for academic or attention deficit problems, she does frequently work with children and families who are trying to cope more adequately with these challenges. Dr. Nix often collaborates with physicians who are treating children medically for a variety of physical and mental health issues, including juvenile diabetes, anxiety, depression, and ADD/ADHD. Issues of childhood and adolescence that Dr. Nix commonly treats include divorce, behavioral & emotional management issues, family conflict & dysfunction, fears & anxiety, depression, difficulty coping with the demands of school or family life, peer problems, trauma resulting from accidents, medical treatment, abuse, neglect, or violence, attention deficit challenges, problems in teen dating relationships, and struggles to establish age-appropriate independence and self-expression.
Please note that Dr. Nix does not do evaluations of any kind, and that she does not provide treatment in cases where the primary objective is to support litigation (e.g., tort cases, disputed divorce cases, parenting plan disputes, possible criminal prosecutions).
